EMPOWER is set apart from competing Student Information Systems by a direct connection between its Oracle database and Web Application Server. While some systems, for instance, just pass email messages to the Registrar for 'Web Registration' and the Registrar then has to manually enter that data, EMPOWER's Web Registration directly updates the database while, at the same time, checking for blocks, holds, requisites, etc.--just as if the student were registering in the Registrars' Office.
